Main Characters

All main Characters will have plenty of opportunity to be in dances but may need to attend some extra classes in the week to help work with the other dancers.

Esmeralda: Our Heroine. Fabulous, vivacious dancer. Wins the hearts of Quasimodo, Captain Phoebus and Frolo. Has a very generous spirit. Falls in love with Captain Phoebus but is imprisoned falsely by a jealous Frolo. Finds out that she is actually Quasimodo’s older sister.

Quasimodo: Brought up by Frolo as he was disfigured at birth. Starts off as Frolo’s puppet to harm Phoebus. He falls for Esmeralda too and not wanting to harm her helps set everything right. Finds our he is Esmeralda’s brother.

The Jester, Pierre Gringoire, the King of the Gypsies: The biggest role. He narrates and keeps the story moving on. He has been a father to Esmeralda so is a bit of a guardian figure. Will be in dances but will be a very physical narrator and have excellent facial expressions.

Archdeacon Claude Frolo: Our baddie; Frolo takes on Quasimodo as a child but has brought him up in isolation and is completely manipulative. He lusts for Esmeralda and stops at nothing to have her for himself. Rotten to the core. Must be able to get the audience to boo and be as scary as Miss Viv!

Captain Phoebus: Captain of the guard. A commanding figure and war hero who falls madly in love with Esmeralda. Is nearly killed by Quasimodo but is rescued and marries Esmeralda.

Sister Julia Gudule: Mother to both Quasimodo and Esmeralda who gave up her baby boy to Frolo and in her grief sought comfort as a nun, handing over her 3 year old daughter, Esmeralda, to Pierre Gringoire. She helps the story make sense and has been watching her children from afar. Determined to set things right.

Goat: Non-speaking, athletic role. Goes around with Esmeralda for most of the time. Moves fast and needs fantastic physical drama and facial expressions.

Minor Parts

Very young Esmeralda, Very young Quasimodo, a few Thugs

There are opportunities for minor non-speaking parts and a musical theatre number to be choreographed in June half term on Tuesday & Wednesday 28th & 29th May 2:30-5:30pm (£10 charge per student except the main cast)

Good luck
